How often should I have my pool cleaned?
For most pools in the Roseville and Rocklin area, weekly service is what it takes. The combination of 100+ degree summers, heavy tree debris, and high UV exposure breaks down chlorine fast and creates a lot of organic buildup. If your yard has mature trees or you're in a windier foothill neighborhood, weekly is especially worth it. We recommend weekly service for all of our customers.
How do I know if my pool has a leak or if it's just evaporation?
In the summer, pools in our area can lose up to a quarter inch of water per day from evaporation alone. That's normal. If you're losing more than that, or your autofill is running constantly, or your water bill jumped for no obvious reason, there's a good chance you have a leak. Try the bucket test: fill a bucket to the same level as your pool water, set it on the top step, and compare levels after 24 hours. If the pool dropped more than the bucket, call us.
Should I repair or replace my old pool pump?
If your single-speed pump is 8 to 10 years old and needs a major repair like a new motor or seal plate, it usually makes more sense to upgrade to a variable-speed pump. Variable-speed pumps cut energy costs by 50 to 70 percent, and California's Title 20 energy regulations now require them for replacements anyway. If the repair is something small like a capacitor or o-ring, fixing what you have is usually the smarter move.
Is a saltwater pool easier to maintain than chlorine?
Saltwater pools still use chlorine, they just generate it from the salt cell instead of you adding it manually. Day to day, yes, they're easier. You don't have to handle chlorine tablets or liquid. But salt systems have their own maintenance needs. The cell needs cleaning every few months and replacing every 3 to 5 years. Salt levels, pH, and stabilizer still need regular testing. The upfront cost is higher, but most of our customers who've switched say the softer water and lower weekly effort are worth it.
Why is my pool green even though I add chlorine?
Nine times out of ten, it's a filtration or circulation problem, not a chemical problem. If your pump isn't running long enough, or your filter is clogged, the chlorine you're adding can't do its job. High cyanuric acid (stabilizer) is another common culprit. When stabilizer builds up too high, it locks up your chlorine and makes it useless against algae. We test for this on every visit and can advise on the best fix, which sometimes means a partial drain and refill.
